Christmas Markets

Since the town of Merano is located on the border of Italy and Austria the fairs here are especially colorful. In addition to the usual souvenirs, guests can get acquainted with two cuisines at once and also with their extravagant mix - South Tyrolean cuisine.

Try for example the smakafam - a buckwheat pie with pieces of sausage or sausage. The name of the dish from Italian translates as "conquers hunger" and it certainly justifies its name entirely!

A visit to the center of Merano with its historical sights, architecture, interesting museums, cafes and the famous Portici (Arcades) dating back to the 13th century is a must if you want to feel the special atmosphere of this city rich in history and tradition.

Of course, the surroundings are also noteworthy. Fans of walking around museums will not be bored in Bolzano - they can visit the Archaeological Museum of South Tyrol. Its most valuable exhibit is considered to be the Ötzi snow mummy - an ancient man who froze to death in the Alps for more
